Official alert about fraudulent ESCOZUL from Guantánamo.
Note of the authors of this website:
The irregularities in the ESCOZUL production in Guantánamo
caused a reaction of the Cuban government that is clearly expressed
in the public declaration of the CECMED (Center for the State Control
of the Quality of Drugs which is equivalent to The Food and Drug
Administration, FDA). This original declaration is available in
Spanish language at CECMED website and we have also made a copy

section just in case you cannot access the CECMED website. Below
we present the English translation of the official document.

PHARMACHOLOCICAL ALERT No. 2/2006
The Centre for the State Control of the Quality of Drugs (CECMED),
the regulating authority of drugs in the Republic of Cuba, has received
knowledge of the commercialization in the Republic of Colombia of
the natural product of animal origin ESCOZUL in oral homeopathic
presentations such as bulb and ampoule and with a label that refers
to be produced at the "Escorpionarios-Havana Guantanamo".
This product does not have a Sanitary Registry on behalf of any
nationally renowned producer laboratory and therefore, its commercialization,
distribution and use in the national territory of the Cuban Republic
is not authorized.
The producer centres declared on the label "Escorpionarios
- Havana Guantánamo" and on INTERNET promotions "Natural
Toxins Laboratory - Guantanamo CUBA" are not laboratories recognized
by CECMED and do not have the authorization to undertake the elaboration
of drugs as established by the System of Sanitary Licences of Pharmaceutical
Operations of Cuba.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba issued
on November 18, 2004 an official note which is available on the
digital edition of the International Granma Newspaper, where it
informs that the product of the scorpion venom is being investigated
for future sanitary registry and people are warned that the so named
ESCOZUL preparation does not have the legal consideration of a medicine
as stated in Article 185 of the Decree 139/1988 Regulation of the
Law of Public Health, and it also refers to the inadequate publicity
made about ESCOZUL through the Internet, which alleges therapeutic

For all the above mentioned this product is considered a "FALSE
MEDICINE" according to the regulations in force, therefore
posing a risk to Public Health.
